JujuyHistory of the City of San Salvador de JujuyThe city of San Salvador de Jujuy was founded on April 19, 1593 by Francisco de Argañaraz and Murguia, since 1834 is the provincial capital of Jujuy in argentine northwest. The original inhabitants of the present territory were the Indians Omaguacas, Tilcaras, Maimaras, Purmamarcas and Yalas. Soon the Incas of Peru integrated these tribes to their Empire. The city of Jujuy fortified the way between the Upper Peru and Buenos Aires, way harassed permanently by the Calchaquíes Indians. During the War of Argentina Independence, the city of Jujuy went the brake to the realistic troops, the famous exodus remembers jujeño that concluded with the defeat of the realistic troops in the battles of Salta and Tucuman. The development of the province had to its natural resources like the mining, the sugar production, the iron and steel industry and the tourism.
