History of the City of San Carlos of Bariloche

The earliest inhabitants of the area were Indians Tehuelches, Puelches and Pehuenche tribes in the mid-seventeenth century were absorbed by the displacement of the Mapuches or Araucanian, from southern Chile.

The Spaniards and evangelizers also arrived in the area in search of a city of gold, which never found.

Then, from the year 1872 began with the Argentine authorities explorations and appreciation of the places occupied by the Indians. Finally in 1879 with the "Desert Campaign to" all these territories were incorporated into the domain of Argentina.

In 1895 installs the first general store branches, but only on May 3, 1902 is given official status of the settlement foundation named after San Carlos of Bariloche.

In 1913 completes the construction of the road first, in 1921 produced the first plane to arrive in Bariloche, then came the railroad. After the visit of former American president, Theodore Roosevelt, the zone began to have relevance tourism.

At present, the city of San Carlos de Bariloche is a major mountain resort both summer and winter, has all the amenities and benefits for tourism nationally and internationally.
