San Agustin of Valle Fertil
Population located in the gorge of San Agustin, on the foot of the mountain range of the Orchard, is head of the Fertile Valley Municipality and counts on an approximated population of 2500 inhabitants. One is to 250 km of the city of San Juan, capital of the province of San Juan

Provincial park Ischigualasto - Valley of the Moon

The Natural Park and Provincial Ischigualasto, also known like Valley the Moon, is located to 76 km of San Agustin of the Fertile Valley.
History has been beginning for about 250 million years, in the Triasico period of the Era Mesozoica and it characterizes by the expansion of the first dinosaurios and mammals.
New and varied they are the found fossil rest in the Valley of the Moon, for example the carnivore "Eoraptor lunensis" famous by being one of the dinosaurios predators older than they are known.
The landscape is dominated by geoforms product of the wearing down differential of rocks, like "the Fungus", "the submarine" and "Field of balls".
The Red Ravines dominate to the landscape reaching the 200 meters of height.
Center of interpretation
The visitor will be able to appreciate diverse aspects of inherent to the archaeological, biological and historical interest of the place. In addition it is possible to be known didactic form as a campaign of scientific research is made, from the finding, cleaning, study and reconstruction of the oldest dinosaurios of the world.

The National Park Talampaya was created in 1997, previously was Provincial Park in 1975 and later, in 2000 Patrimony of the Humanity was declared. Km2 has an extension of 2150 and in the Park archaeological and paleontological deposits are protected, also lodges species animals like the Mara, the Ñandu, Guacache, Barranqueros parrots, the Chelco; the flora is made up mainly of cactus, carob trees, annoys, etc.
From always Talampaya it summoned the attention of the men. This park is a sample book of the geologic eras, whereas the primitive man, left to its sign in the numerous pictorial drawings and habitacionales rest.
The Talampaya term has many acceptances, but most of the authors they agree in the following interpretation: "dry river of the cutting".
In Talampaya it was kept great part from the geologic Earth history. Accumulated during million years, their sediments were left in the open when rising along with the mountain range of the andes.
Their different colors and textures are test of the variety of materials that conform them. The sand grains dragged by the wind and the water give to continuity to the changes molding rocks in those forms that our culture identifies with images by well-known us. Thus, they were baptized with names like the Monk, the Cathedral and the Castle among others. |
